How come American Historians change the names of great explorers to sound more English?

I have found this to be true to keep things more interesting for American kids and to keep the names memorable. I have also found that "history" that is taught in our public schools is mostly propaganda and is geared to favor the white people. More accurate history concerning our "hero's" in history is very eye opening, trust me.
