Did magellan's voyage to the spice island occur before or after his voyage to the philippines?

magellan did not plan a voyage to the philippines (or what is now philippines) and he probably didn't even know such a place existed. his mission was strictly to sail to the spice islands on a trip funded by king charles of spain. unfortunately his GPS device malfunctioned along the way, he veered a bit northward, zigged instead of zagged, and stumbled into the philippines instead. asking for directions, the spaniards were misunderstood by the natives due to communication problems, and soon a shouting match developed. an altercation ensued during which magellan was stabbed and killed on the spot by garmin, a nephew and loyal bodyguard of lapulapu the chieftain. thus he wasn't able to accomplish his mission.
